Meet Britain's most economical beneficiary Ilona Richards - who has made a cleaning up fluid container last an entire YEAR.

Ilona, 66, has gone the additional mile in penny-squeezing, liking to wear additional garments and keep her warming off - and making each supper for not exactly £1.

She even asks visitor to her home in Scunthorpe, North Lincs., to bring their own particular tea packs so she doesn't need to fork out for a cuppa.

Her vacuum cleaner was found in a skip and as opposed to heating up a pot to make tea she warms a mug of high temp water in the microwave.

However, her cheap ways don't prevent her treating herself occasionally. A pack of four doughnuts to go close by her tea will however just cost her 15p.

She said: "That is the distinction between being thrifty and being penny-squeezing. I don't deny myself anything, yet I never go frantic.

"I need to put the cash crosswise over it doesn't all need to be fate and despair not having much cash.

"It's about organizing what's critical. I think having less gives you flexibility.
